The skills council for science, engineering and manufacturing, Semta, is to give small and medium sized companies within engineering and manufacturing the chance to employ graduates, reports engineeringcapacity.com.
Semta plans to do this through an Employment Investment Fund and aims to reduce youth unemployment by March of 2013. The grants will be the first to be specifically directed at new graduates. The operations director at Semta, Lynn Tomkins believes “the money will make a real difference. Only 15% of SMEs in advance manufacturing and engineering employ graduates. Our ambition is to see this rise to 17% over the next three years.”
A minimum of 200 new graduates are expected to be employed by this programme, contributing to the economy being productive in new employment, whilst the scheme also aids small businesses, giving vital grant money and adding new and energetic expertise to their company.
